LOW GLOSS :
i) Painting in rain, fog, frost, damp
atmosphere
ii) Inadequate film thickness.
iii) Incorrect Thinner.
iv) Excessive Thinning.
v) Too high stoving temperature.
vi) Poor stirring.
vii) Give Flash off time:
POOR DRYING :
i) Wrong Thinner.
ii) Very thick coats.
iii) Painting on oily, waxy surface.
iv) Too old stock ( Aged paint )
v) Lower stoving schedule.
vi) Painting in humid conditions.
SEPARATION & SETTLING
:
i) Long storage of paint, use of old paint before new supply is used.
Occasional turning of drums.
ii) Storing of thinned Paint.
THICKENING &
GELLING :
i) Storage in hot place.
ii) Long storage of paint. -Use old stock first.
SKINNING :
i) Improper storage.
ii) Opening/closing of containers oftenly.
WRINKLING :
i) Very thick coats.
ii) Application of next coat without drying.
iii) Quick drying paint exposed to strong sunlight or heat.
iv) High stoving temperature.
SAGGING :
i) Improper use of spray gun.
ii) Excessive thinner.
iii) Incorrect Thinner.
iv) Application of excessively thick coat.
PINHOLING :
i) Wrong thinner used - Check up.
ii) Inadequate mixing of paint & Thinner.
iii) Air bubbles due to stirring in deep tanks.
iv) Improper Surface preparation.
POOR OPACITY :
i) Settling &
inadequate stirring.
ii) Excessive thinning or excessive spreading or low application
viscosity leading to low film thickness.
BLISTERING
:
i) Give flash off time.
ii) Poor surface treatment.
iii) Painting over moist surface.
